AVON WALK | May 1-2, 2010
Earlier this month, The John Thompson III Foundation fielded a team for the Washington, DC Avon Walk. Along with almost 3,000 walkers, Troop Thompson walked a total of 39.3 miles over two days to raise awareness and funds to battle breast cancer.
Overall, $65 million was raised over the weekend by all walkers to fund the goal of all individuals being able to receive medical care regardless of their ability to pay and to aid leading researchers in their search for a cure. Georgetown’s own Lombardi Center and its Capital Breast Care Center were the recipients of three grants totaling $950,000. The CBCC provides culturally appropriate breast cancer screening services and promotes health and wellness to women in Washington, D.C regardless of income. Last year, CBCC screened over 2,000 women.
