Fourth Annual Holiday Book Drive | December 17, 2011
The John Thompson III Foundation hosted its fourth annual holiday Book Drive when the Georgetown University men’s basketball team played American University at Verizon Center on Saturday, Dec. 17. Fans brought children’s books to the game to aid the all-boys Septima Clark Public Charter School in their effort to build a school library. For more information on the school visit www.scpcs.org.

Mrs. Thompson Honored by IAMMM | September 2010
The Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural & Minority Medicine (IAMMM) held its 7th Annual Awards Benefit on September 21, 2010 to “salute survivors and promote life”. The gala recognized courageous individuals who have overcome severe medical challenges, made extraordinary contributions through service, and educated communities nationwide. Monica Thompson was awarded the Eagle Fly Free award of freedom, courage and strength. Other award recipients included General Colin Powell, USA; F. Alexis H. Roberson; Maimah Karmo; SSG Stephanie Mason; Hon. David Catania; Margot James Copeland; Anne C. Beal, MD, MPH; and Donna Joyner Richardson. According to Monica, ” IAMMM is an extraordinary organization in taking on the tall task of eliminating the great disparities that still exist in health and healthcare among the underrepresented and underserved in this country. I was truly humbled and honored to be recognized by them.”
Mystics Breast Health Awareness Game | August 2009
Monica Thompson took part in the WNBA Washington Mystics 2nd Annual Auction in support of Breast Health Awareness and Sibley Memorial Hospital. The foundation donated (2) tickets to the 2010 Georgetown v. Duke men’s basketball game to help raise money for Sibley.
Teach for America Week | March 2009
On March 6, 2009, Executive Director, Monica Thompson, participated in the Teach For America Week, where she taught a fifth grade English class at the Friendship Public Charter School, Chamberlin Campus. Each year, Teach for America (TFA), engages hundreds of public figures nationwide to serve in America’s classrooms for a day. This year’s guest teachers in the D.C. Region included, Congresswoman Donna Edwards, Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Paul Begala, Wendy Paulson, Gina Adams and Hilary Gillen.
